Hello,

My name is KLJ Burke, founder and lecturer at KLJ Burke Consulting Services founded in 2007, to help public assistance recipients become self-reliant through business development opportunities.

After researching extensive hours on poverty and health issues which I thought to be a result of lack of opportunity in the job markets including Wall Street, I decided to establish a business that would revitalize communities through business development, and use the people as a tool for community empowerment. And that is when KLJ Burke Consulting Services was born.

When I learned what I call "Great News," I met with perspective investors who are community leaders; executives and administrators at New York State Board of Education; reputable government agencies and nonprofit organizations; educators; and business owners, to share my vision on helping public assistance recipients become self reliant through business development opportunities. And it was a HIT. It was well received.

Welcome to KLJ Burke Consulting Services. Our mission is to help public assistance recipients become self-reliant through business development opportunities.

Our goal is to assist Public Assistance Recipients with starting their own micro-businesses, without having their public assistance cases affected.

Now...I want to tell you that if you are on public assistance I want to help you start your own business. Then I want you to go to your Center and tell your case worker and the director that, they better not touch your benefits until your business is established with its cash-flow. And while you're at it, show them how much your business made since your last pick-up date. But of course, be considerate of others and assure them that your business offers employment opportunity for them-providing things don't work out for them at HRA- because you do know how the turn over rate is at HRA: new staff all the time.

Now...A Little Info About Me...KLJ Burke

I raised my three children as a single mother, since 1990. We were on public assistance and lived in a shelter from 1991 and 1992, and again from 1994 to 1995.

After settling into our home through the Section 8 Program, I decided to attend college in 1997. After receiving my Bachelors in 1999, I decided to pursue a master's degree, and so I did in Administration. Attending Audrey Cohen College, now Metropolitan College of New York, taught me how to write grant proposals and how to write narrative budgets; the importance of, and how to use statistical data.

I also hold certifications in For-Profit Ventures in a Not-for Profit Organization in 2007, offered by Pace University and United Way of New York City; and Nonprofit Leadership and Development in 2006, offered by Baruch College of Public Affairs and United Way of New York City.
"And you know what they say...that is all she wrote." You see, my struggle helped me to understand the famous quote "never forget where you come from!"

Please don't get it twisted that you need a heap of education to start your own business. I'm just giving you the break-down to solidify my position as to why I want to help you start your own business-moving you away from the rhetorical bullshit the system will shove down your throat, especially when you are holding it down by yourself! In fact, if I could go back in time I would have invested my time in the music industry, because that is where my love and passion are and, if I would go there, I really don't think chances would be open to...well...well...well again! That's how BAD I am-when it comes to writing and singing. But the truth is, my struggle as a single mother on public assistance, living in shelters, then working towards my degrees and certifications made me feel a strong sense of passion for other single mother to succeed. "I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU COULD ACCOMPLISH WHATEVER YOU WANT AND THAT YOU BETTER DO IT WHILE YOU HAVE HOPE: YOU ARE ALIVE!

Now of course with all this business development I had to understand the importance of funding streams, and that is why I decided to develop an e-book in 2006 used by professors and college students-Grants, Funding and Bonuses (GFB). It is compiled with website addresses and direct contacts to funders accepting proposals for business development and program development and expansion. Included are scholastic opportunities for college students and for students preparing to attend college. Funding opportunities included in GFB are also available to international students. As a bonus, I have included guides on how to (1) start a nonprofit organization (2) write a grant proposal and a narrative budget (3) taxing issues (4) deal with nonprofit crisis and much more. Now...enough about me. Let's talk about you. I want to help you start your own business without having your case affected, at least until your business is established with a cash flow.
