My name is Janet Matthews, I live in Hereford in the UK with my husband. We have been married for 35 years and have 3 grown up children and 2 grandchildren.
When I left school I trained to be a teacher of Home Economics and taught in a High School in Liverpool for 3 years. During that time I met and married my husband and gave birth to my first child. I thought that I would never go back to teaching. It wasn’t a job I enjoyed very much and with the prospect of bringing up a family, teaching in the future was far from my mind.
By the time my 3rd child had been born it was clear that I was going to have to find some paid employment if we were to be able to afford to bring up 3 children. I did many mundane jobs:- delivering leaflets, running a slimming club one night a week, sorting patchwork squares for patchwork bag kits etc etc. However one of my more lucrative and enjoyable jobs was selling educational books and games through party plan. I became a real success at this and worked my way up from agent to area manger, regional manager and eventually national sales coordinator.
Eventually the time came when the hours and the constant traveling didn't fit in with the family so, back to teaching!!. Apart from a couple of years teaching Maths and Business Studies, most of my latter teaching years were spent running a center for pupils with behavioral and emotional problems. I did this work for 13 years and eventually felt I couldn't cope with any more negativity and challenging behavior. During those years I decided to rain to be a nutritional consultant – thinking that might be a way out of teaching, but found I couldn't take money of people, especially if they were sick.
For the next 3 years I did some part time work, teaching pupils with medical and emotional problems individually in their own homes. During that time a also did a lot of training. I trained to be a life coach and updated my nutrition training. I thought that might be a way forward for me but soon realized that I was just an eternal student who loved learning and didn't feel inclined to move into that type of work.
12 months ago gave up the teaching altogether. I took early retirement, and decided I would try my hand at earning a living online!!
Well it has been a steep learning curve. 12 months on I have spent far too much money, come across and fallen for my fair share of scams and at the end of it all I have earned very little money. But I have, during that time, learned a tremendous amount about network marketing, social networking, blogging, web site creation and much more. I now feel I have most of the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle and what I need to do is to work out how to put them all together.
The best thing for me in this first 12 months has been all the amazing friendships I have forged with fellow internet marketers. I have met so many helpful and lovely people from all over the world. I thought it was going to be a lonely existence working on the computer, but on the contrary I have become involved with an amazing community of like-minded people.
Although teaching large classes in High School was certainly not my strength, I do consider myself to be an educator. I love to impart knowledge and information and feel I have a gift in that area. I have always been a great believer in the importance of not only teaching the knowledge but also teaching them how to apply that knowledge. A concept that seems to be sadly lacking in many areas of education.
Having spent the last 12 months feeling as though I have been walking through treacle, one of my hopes is that when I finally understand how to apply the knowledge I have learned, that I will be able to help others to get to where I am now a lot quicker and with less hassle. I would like to use my expertise as an educator to help other people like me, who would like to earn a living on line, to be successful.
